Robert B. Stites

December 3, 1930 ~ September 7, 2019 (age 88)

Robert B. Stites, 88, passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2019. Bob was born in Westville, NJ to the late Violet & Virgil A. Stites Sr. He is survived by his fiancé Caroline Cangelose of Glassboro & sister-in-law Jeanette T. Stites of Turlock, CA. He was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years Jane Kinninger Stites, second wife Jane Davis Stites and brother Virgil Stites Jr. Bob was a Staff Sgt. in the US Air Force from 1951-1955. He received his BA from Rutgers University in 1962 and a Juris Doctor Degree, with high honors, from Rutgers School of Law in 1964. He practiced law most of his adult life in various areas of expertise including alcohol & drug abuse, estate planning & administration, real estate and bankruptcy. From 1970 to 1982 he served in numerous State of New Jersey, US Department of Justice & National Associations specializing in the area of alcohol & drug abuse. Bob also served as council member for the Borough of Westville. He acted as Borough of Westville Judge of Municipal Court as well as acting Judge in all municipal courts in Gloucester, Salem & Cumberland Counties. Bob proudly participated in professional organizations such as the NJ Bar Association, Gloucester County Municipal Court Judges Association & American Judges Association. He was a long-time member of the Gloucester County Historical Society and the Westville Lions Club for over 53 years, serving as President in 1972-1973. He enjoyed studying genealogy and researching the Stites family tree. He was known to pull phone books when traveling around the country and calling families listed with the Stites name to see if or how he might be related. In his later years, he enjoyed dancing and got to see his beloved Eagles win Super Bowl LII. His humor and quick wit will be missed by all that knew him. Bob is also survived by his nephews & nieces Virgil III (Eileen) of Turlock, CA; Donald (Katheryn) of Leflore, OK; Eileen (Bob) Wyckhuyse of Elk Ridge, UT; Kenneth (Michiell) of Round Rock, TX; Kathleen (Jerry) Moztel of Simi Valley, CA & many cousins and grandnieces & nephews.

Visitation Monday 10am until the service at 11am at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL HOME 171 Delaware St. Woodbury, NJ. Interment Eglington Cemetery.
