Brian Murphy Bosworth

January 29, 1953 — September 7, 2023

Brian Murphy Bosworth, 70, of Woodbury, NJ, passed away on September 7, 2023. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward Howard and Ruth Murphy Bosworth, his twin brother and sister, Lance J. Bosworth and Karen J. Bosworth. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Moore Bosworth of Woodbury; daughter, Regina Bosworth (Mike Cummings) of Sicklerville, daughter, Katie “Rocky” Bosworth of Ocean City, grandson, Carter James Bosworth Cummings, Grandpets Cooper and Peaches and 3 nephews, Chris, Scott and Ross Bosworth.

Brian devoted his life to his family, friends and his love of his hometown, Woodbury. After graduating from Woodbury High School, Class of 1971, he continued his education receiving a Bachelor Degree in History from West Virginia University, another love, as we all know. During his time in West Virginia he met Ruth Ann, and after a few unusual dates they knew they had found their soulmate. 46 years ago, they found their home in Woodbury, added 2 daughters and several pets. Brian was proud of his daughters, followed them in all their activities and loved hanging out with them, whether it was on the beach or at a hockey or baseball game. Adding a couple of men to the family by the way of Mike and Carter, certainly helped balance the playing field. His humor and support will be missed.

Brian returned home from college with more lifelong friends and began his 39-year career serving the community he loved with the City of Woodbury as Building and Housing Inspector. He later added the role of Zoning Officer and finally fulfilling the position as Planning Administrator, one he truly cherished. Each position often brought challenging tasks but ones he felt were some of the most important for the betterment of the entire community.

His service to Woodbury continued with the Jaycees serving on the board in most positions and was on numerous committees over many years including some of his favorites: Foods and Gifts, the Fall Festival Parade and Fourth of July Fireworks. His commitment to the Jaycee motto earned him the distinct honor of being named a Junior Chamber International Senator. Some of the best memories and friends developed from those years and many of his famous tacos were served at committee meetings around the family dining room table. Those friendships then developed into the formation of the Woodbury Polo Club in 1989 where Brian was one of the founding members.

Over the years Brian was involved in Coaching Youth Baseball, Midget Football, and especially as his daughters grew up in Youth Girls Basketball. His passion for Woodbury Schools stemmed from the fact there were three generations of Bosworths attending or working in the school district for 50 consecutive years and became the catalyst for his involvement in the Woodbury High School Alumni Association as well as his Class of ‘71 reunions. He also is a member of the American Legion Post #133, South Jersey Baseball Oldtimers, and is a life time member of the West Virginia University Alumni Association.
