Elizabeth 'Betty' Buchanan

Elizabeth "Betty" Buchanan (nee Bender), 90, of Woodbury, passed away on Saturday December 6, 2014 at home.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert J. Buchanan; daughter Patricia Davis and her husband Fred of Mickleton; son William and his wife Cathy of Ocean City; three grandchildren Robert Davis and his wife Tara of Philadelphia, Erick Davis and his wife Stephanie of Bryn Mawr, PA & Wendy Buchanan of West Deptford; and 6 great grandchildren Tori, Taylor, Heidi, Owen, Astrid & Griffin.

Betty graduated from Woodbury High School in 1942 and married her high school sweetheart three months later. Bob had enlisted in the Marine Corps and they lived at the Cherry Point Air Base in North Carolina. When World War II ended, they continued their life together in Woodbury.

Betty served her hometown in many ways. She was a member of the Shade Tree Commission, President of the Evergreen Avenue P.T.A., President of the Woodbury Women's Club and its evening division, and President of the Woodbury Little League.

She was a very active member of Christ Episcopal Church for many years where she served as president of the Episcopal Church Women's Association. Betty was a member of the Athene Chapter #201 Order of the Eastern Star of Pennsauken.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Wednesday, December 10th from 9 am to 11am at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL HOME where Betty worked as a secretary for many years. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at Christ Episcopal Church 62 Delaware St., Woodbury NJ. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Christ Church.
