George Richard Grady

March 30, 1927 — December 17, 2023

George Richard Grady, 96, of West Deptford, passed away on December 17, 2023. George was born in Jamaica Queens, New York and resided in Doylestown, PA before moving to West Deptford 4 years ago. George served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a National Sales Manager for Shaw Walker in Philadelphia.

George had many talents. The first special gift that comes to mind was his smile, which helped him become a true conversationalist. He could put any person at ease with his happy demeanor and charismatic personality. George had the best name recall and would share many life experiences using humor and charm. Most people will remember George’s amazing ability in playing golf. As a talented scratch-golfer, his passion in playing the game lead him to sharing professional strategies with others. George played on foursome teams through his 93rd year.

He was an exceptional reader, devouring books one after another. It channeled him to another passion of writing his own philosophies on life. He would send letters to his children and grandchildren on how to improve life with effort and determination. He had a way with using words to guide and motivate.

George loved his heritage as an Irishman. His love for singing Irish melodies and dancing are embedded in his grandchildren’s hearts. George was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was proud of this achievement and felt honored attending military funerals for many years.

George was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Lee Grady, in 2016. George was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Grady, and brothers and sister-in-laws: Martin J. Grady, James and Natalie Grady, and David and Betty Grady.

He is survived by his son, James (Thresa) Grady, daughter, Mary Lee Harpel, and son, George (Peggy) Grady. He is loved by his grandchildren: Grady (Leah) Harpel, Kara (Ross) DeVoe, Shane Grady, Paul Harpel, Jenna (Dan) McGowan, and Marisa Grady. He adored his great-grandchildren: Jake Harpel, Bridget McGowan, Henry DeVoe, Jane McGowan, and baby DeVoe arriving in March 2024. There are additional nieces and nephews he loved dearly. George also loved all of his wonderful dogs over the many years with his last final buddy, Teddy. Teddy will now be Shane’s special companion in life.
