John Price

October 27, 1922 — February 6, 2013

John Price, age 90, Crossing Apartments, Glassboro, New Jersey passed on February 6, 2013. Born in San Francisco, California on October 27, 1922 Mr. Price came to New Jersey in 1926. He was the son of Woodbury High School English Teacher Cora Emily Houghton Price and James (Jimmy) Price, a labor rights activist.

Mr. Price graduated from Woodbury High School with honors and was valedictorian of his 1939 class. He studied painting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and later at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In June 1960, Mr. Price entered classes at Glassboro State College. He later changed his major from Art to English. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania College Of General Studies.

Mr. Price worked for his mother who headed the Woodbury High School Friends of the Animals Club that club became widely known as it sought to promote humane attitudes towards animals and to find good homes for dogs and cats.

Mr. Price was a poet, artist and avid reader. He has donated more than 300 new books along with books from his personal collection, his poetry, journals and artwork to Rowan University, and was widely considered part the Rowan University extended family.

His friendship, sharp mind and intellect will be missed. Lifelong friend of Mrs. Sylvia Foster of Virginia Beach, Virginia and dear friend of Mary Ann Curtis Gonzales, Mary Colleen Gonzales of Glassboro and Marilyn Martin of Lacey, Washington.
