John Wilbert Slater

September 9, 1916 — September 9, 2010

John Wilbert Slater, son of Andrew and Lillian Keech Slater, was born, September 9, 1916 in Camden County, New Jersey. He departed this life, Thursday, September 9, 2010, in his home, Macks Creek, Missouri at the age of ninety-four years.
He was united in marriage to Pearl Dando and to this union two sons were born. After Pearl's passing, he married Rose Marie Biederman and added three children to his family. Rose passed away in 1996.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jack Slater and Dan Slater and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, Derenda Taylor and husband Robert of Roach, Missouri,
Roseann McDevitt of Williamstown, New Jersey and Dave Simpson and wife Jill of Deltona, Florida; several grandchildren including, Breanna, Caleb, Emma and Andrew Taylor, John McDevitt III and Kara Kipe, Daniel, Ryan and Julia Simpson; many great-grandchildren including, Hayden and Cohen Kipe and a host of other relatives and many friends.

John was raised in New Jersey and worked as a dredge operator, was a contractor in the roofing and siding business and worked for the Deptford, New Jersey Fire Department. The family moved in Virginia in 1984 and retired to Macks Creek, Missouri in 1995.
John made a profession of faith and was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Deptford, New Jersey.
In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking. Most of all he enjoyed times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a loving father and grandfather and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2pm Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Davis and Wagner Funeral Home, Woodbury, New Jersey. Graveside services will be held 2:30pm Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pitman, New Jersey.
