Elva Lawrence Du Laney

Elva Lawrence Du Laney, 91, of Woodbury Heights went home to the Lord on June 27, 2016. Born in Westville, Mrs. Du Laney was the daughter of Eugene and Theresa Lawrence. She is survived by son Donald Du Laney and daughter-in-law Susan Meslar Du Laney of Verona, NJ; daughter Laurel Du Laney-Smith and son-in-law Timothy Smith of Arlington, VA; grandchildren Charlotte (Daniel) Stahl, Claire Du Laney and George Du Laney; and great-granddaughter Adela Stahl. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Du Laney; brothers Eugene, Herman and Elton Lawrence; and sisters Laura Lawrence, Lillian Peters and Vivian Burhans.

A very loving and compassionate person and devoted mother, Mrs. Du Laney chose a career that enabled her to care for others. Following her 1943 graduation from Woodbury High School, she attended the Cooper School of Nursing. After graduation, she served as a registered nurse in multiple capacities, including over 50 years as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was a long-time active supporter and secretary of the Alumni Association for the Cooper School of Nursing. Her desire to care for others extended beyond her official duties; for many years she was a dependable caregiver to many people, especially seniors, in her community. She was the recipient of the DAR Award and the Four Chaplains Award. She was a life-long member of the Westville Baptist Church. She loved all of nature, particularly birds and the flowers and rebirth of springtime. And a very special, Thank You, to Holy Redeemer Hospice.

The family will be available at DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL HOME, 171 Delaware St, Woodbury NJ 08096, Thursday 7 to 9pm and Friday 10am until the Funeral Services at 11am at the Westville Baptist Church, 225 Summit Ave, Westville, NJ 08093. Interment Wenonah Cemetery, Mantua, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Unit (www.RedCross.org.)
