Helen S. Huesser (nee Sweeten), 92, of West Deptford passed away in her home on May 22, 2025, into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior with family by her side. Helen was born in Thorofare on August 21,1932 and was the daughter of Edwin F. Sweeten and Lucille (Adams). In 1951, Helen graduated from Paulsboro High School. After meeting her future husband, while roller skating, Helen married Robert F. Huesser on June 4, 1955. They moved to Woodbury, living in an apartment over Sweeten’s Florist which was started by her father. Helen and Bob later moved to Oak Street in Woodbury where they raised their three children. In 2004, they moved to West Deptford after selling their home to Underwood Hospital.
Helen was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed baking, needlework, and had the gift of hospitality. She was a gracious host, and her door and heart were always open. There was always room for one more chair at the table.
Outside of her home, Helen worked at a bakery and at the family flower shop. When her father retired, Helen and her sister Lucille bought the family business in Woodbury and renamed the business to Flower’s by Sweeten’s. Helen’s husband, Robert, and brother, Leonard, worked with them before retiring in 1993. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Woodbury for over 70 years.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Robert F. Huesser of 69 years; their three children Robert E. (the late Valerie and the late Deborah) of Woodbury, Linda (Kevin) McDavid of Doylestown, PA, and David (Suzi) of Dubai; grandchildren Jonathan (Lauren) McDavid, Stephanie (Todd) Deose, Mark (Rebekah) McDavid, Kimberlee (Caleb) Moore, Joshua (Julie) Huesser, Michael (Jessica) Huesser, Lauren Huesser, and 16 great grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her sister Lucille (Liberio) Sgorlon, and brothers Leonard (Claire) and Robert (Dorothy) Sweeten.
Helen’s long struggle with Alzheimer’s is over. She will be remembered for loving her Savior and family and the many ways she blessed others.
