James Lewis Prescott III, age 71, of West Deptford, NJ, passed away on July 14, 2025, of natural causes.
Born on June 5, 1954, in Montclair, NJ, he was the son of James Lewis Prescott, Jr., and Edna Dinklage Tapley. He grew up in Mountain Lakes, NJ, and later lived in Boca Raton, Florida, before moving back to his beloved home state.
James was a 1973 graduate of Mountain Lakes High School and a graduate of Glassboro State College. He founded JLP Photography and built a career in sales, marketing, and hospitality. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a navigator aboard the USS Biddle (CG-34).
He is survived by his niece, Tia McKenna Lloyd of Port Orange, FL; grand-nephew, Andrew Prescott Lloyd of Chicago, IL; and many loving family members from the Prescott, Dinklage, Tapley, and Duff families. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis Prescott, Jr., and Edna Dinklage Tapley, and his sister, Donna Prescott McKenna.
James (“Jimmy/Jimbo”) will be remembered for his extraordinary wit and clever humor, a gift that brought laughter and light to all who knew him. His reflective and observant nature allowed him to find comedy in the everyday, and he shared that gift generously. Jimmy also loved a good “deep convo” — philosophy, spirituality, history, politics, nature, nostalgia, music, movies — always diving in with insight and passion. A man of both intellect and heart, he was known for his genuine compassion and respect for others. He gave thoughtful credit for even the smallest details, spoke to people with kindness and dignity, and often wrote eloquent tributes to those who inspired him. Jimmy will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, shipmates, and the many lives he touched.
Jimmy admired traditions of the Quaker faith, including the practice of honoring life through silence. In that spirit, the family invites everyone to pause for a few moments of silent reflection to remember him.
