Joan T. Shimkus

Joan T. Shimkus (nee Yannul), 93, of Clayton, passed away on December 27, 2025. Joan was born in Philadelphia and resided most of her life in West Deptford. She worked for many years for the Gloucester County Bank and later for Dr. George at Emergency Physicians Associates until her retirement in 1991. Joan loved music and especially loved dancing. She always vacationed at the Jersey Shore, even as a youngster and especially cherished her time with her family in Brigantine. She treasured her lifelong friendship with her “club girls”. She loved crafting, walking at Red Bank Battlefield, playing cards, trips to the casinos and dining out; and most of all being with her family. In her later years as her health declined, she loved watching her game shows and playing scrabble on her phone.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1991; brother Edward Yannul and son-in-law Jeff Musumeci. She is survived by her daughters Jo Anne (Dennis) Gulite and Susan Musumeci; son Paul Shimkus; daughter-in-law Janine; sister-in-law Lucille Yannul Yeagher and 5 grandchildren Michael, Jimmy, Kelli, Nick, and Anthony.

Visitation 9am Saturday January 3rd until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Joachim Parish, Annunciation Church 601 W. Browning Road Bellmawr, NJ 08031 under the direction of DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware Street Woodbury, NJ. Interment in New St. Mary Cemetery.
