Robert W. Chute

February 22, 1930 — July 23, 2023

Robert W. Chute, 93, of Woodbury Heights, passed away on July 23, 2023. He was born in Glouester, Ohio and has resided in Woodbury Heights for over 53 years. Bob spent his childhood in Ohio where he became a Boy Scout and lifelong supporter. The lessons he learned helped shape his life. He was a standout in high school as class president, varsity football player and National Honor Society member. Proud of his country, Bob enlisted into the US Army and served honorably during the Korean War. He earned the United Nations Service medal, Korean Service Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service medal and a Merit Unit Citation. In 1960 his dream of becoming a Chemical Engineer finally took shape. He graduated with a BS from The Ohio State University. He worked as a chemical engineer for the Shell Oil Company and Chrysler Plastics Production Corp. His work in research and development led him to apply for a patent for the "Styrene Polymerization Process" During this time he was Vice President and program chairman of the Ohio-Fireland Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers, member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and on the board of advisors for Plastics Education for EHOVE joint Vocational High School, Milan, Ohio. In the late 1960's Bob met Susan Shunk-Chute in Woodbury Heights where they later married in 1970. During his spare time Bob assisted Susan with her business Bon Voyage Travel. Bob helped Susan create spectacular holiday landscapes in their front yard that have been enjoyed by many for over 50 years. Both Bob and Susan loved to travel, but Bob especially enjoyed returning home to see his favorite Buckeyes play a football game. Bob's kindness and love of his community was well represented by his service as a Woodbury Heights firefighter, member of the Gateway school board, member of the Woodbury Heights Lions Club, member of the Wenonah Building and Loan association, and former member of the Woodbury Heights Zoning Board of Adjustment and Woodbury Heights Planning board in the 1960s.

Bob had a life well lived and loved by all who knew him.
