Suzanne G. Shunk Chute, 91, owner of Bon Voyage Travel Agency set sail on her final journey October 25,2025. She was born in Riverton, New Jersey and has resided in Woodbury Heights, NJ for almost 70 years.
"Sweet Sue" as she was known to her classmates, spent her childhood in Riverton where she learned the gift of giving from her parents, particularly her father who would distribute Christmas toys to various charities. She was a standout student at Tillicum High school (class of ‘52) where she was the Majorette in the drum and bugle Corps., as well as participating in drama, Choir and Glee club. She loved spending summers in Beach Haven, Long Beach Island NJ with family while working on her suntan which she continued to do both her entire life.
Fresh out of High School, a determined and enthusiastic young woman with an interest in seeing the world, became a Flight Attendant for TWA (Trans World Airline). She was so dazzled by her experiences and adventures around the world she decided to earn her pilot’s license. During her time with TWA, she excelled as a Flight Attendant and was honored with the title Miss Travelage East for TWA.
Post WWII technology helped revolutionized mass travel. Travel became faster, accessible and more efficient. Global tourism was growing quickly but hard to navigate. Susan wanted to share her knowledge, expertise and love of travel with the public. So, in 1960, a 26-year-old strong independent woman's dream of owning a Travel Agency took shape. Believing in his daughter's dream, her father helped her establish Bon Voyage Travel. Susan's tenacity, charm and high standards helped many generations of families achieve their own amazing grand adventures and lifetime memories. She cared for her clients like family often waiting up nights until her clients safely landed due to bad weather. Many of her repeat clients became lifelong family and friends that spanned generations. She excelled in business for 65 years earning multiple awards throughout the travel industry and best of Gloucester County Multiple years.
In the late 1960's Susan met Bob Chute in Woodbury Heights where they later married in 1970. In his spare time her husband learned about the travel business and assisted her part time. Susan, with the help of her husband created spectacular holiday landscapes in their front yard that has been enjoyed by many for over 50 years until Bobs passing. Susan enlisted her dear friend Tony to help continue her tradition of delighting the community.
Known to many as Aunt Susan, her sparkly personality, stylish clothes and trademark bracelets on each arm, not to mention her four-legged daughter dressed to the nines, still did not overshadow her caring, kindness and generosity. She often sent cards for every occasion. She had a list of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays for entire families. She constantly delivered gifts to people, not only family and friends but people she didn't know like the nursing staff at rehab for her husband.
She enjoyed a good party, from wedding to baptisms and everything in between. She celebrated life with everyone around her.
A woman of faith and a past deacon of her church, Susan would sit in the back pew with her quiet little four-legged daughter. She often delighted children after Sunday services, introducing them to her current four-legged daughter dressed in her Sunday best.
The lives she has touched cannot be counted. She was a sister, furry mom, aunt, grandmother, mentor and friend who was always there for you. Your bright smile will be missed. We love you.
